The Do’s and Don'ts of Window Maintenance

It might not be on the top of your cleaning list, but maintaining your windows is a task that should not be overlooked. For so many of us, the appearance of our home is something that we take pride in. Maintaining your windows on a regular basis not only allows light to enter your property to provide a warm and cosy ambience, but it also looks better on the outside too. With the British weather being predictably awful in the winter months, it’s inevitable that your windows will be exposed to significant amounts of rain. With this in mind, it’s recommended that you regularly clean your windows to ensure they are in the best condition possible. Nevertheless, it can be difficult knowing exactly how to approach window maintenance.

Take a look at our guide to the do’s and don'ts of window maintenance!

Do This:

●     Clean Regularly - Whether you own old or new windows, it’s important that you clean them on a regular basis. Neglecting your windows will only leave them looking dirty, which looks unappealing to you and bypassers! To have a home that you can be proud of, considering cleaning them around once a week. If you are unable to clean your windows yourself, it might be a good idea to enlist the help of a window cleaning team.

●     Research The Chemicals - Before using chemicals to clean your windows, it’s integral that you know exactly what you’re using. The last thing you want is to put harsh chemicals on your new window panes, as this can completely damage the glass by leaving streaks and making them look even dirtier. It’s recommended that you stay away from chemicals which use ammonia, sodium hydroxide and formaldehyde.

Don’t Do This:

●    Use Too Much Soap - Although soap is renowned for its ability to clean dirty surfaces, using too much of it can leave residue on your window panes. This can be an issue because it attracts more dust upon drying. Instead, opt for specialist window-cleaning solutions that will leave fewer streaks!

●     Clean in The Sun - Cleaning your windows when the sun comes out may seem ideal, but cleaning windows on a hot day can actually be detrimental to your windows. If you wash your windows when it’s too warm, then it’s likely that streaks will be left behind! Instead, it’s recommended that you clean your windows on a cloudier day.

Are your windows looking like they’re on their last legs and you think you might be in need of some new windows?
