How Your Doors And Windows Can Reduce Your Bills

As winter weather begins to hit us and bills rise, it is important to think of ways that can help to save you money. While using the heating sparingly and switching off plugs can help, sometimes the bigger steps you can take the better.

While it’s not often thought about when trying to save money, looking at your windows and doors can actually help you save a ton of money on bills. Here is how.

Double & Triple Glazed Windows

Double and triple-glazed windows help to reduce bills by saving on energy. They create an insulated barrier between panes of glass, which can help to keep heat trapped inside. You want the least heat possible to escape your home, as this means your heating won’t have to work as hard to heat your home. This means you could go longer without turning your heating on, or just stick it on for a short burst of time.

The best way to use your windows to keep costs low this winter is to keep them shut as much as possible. Putting your heating on is practically negated as soon as you open a window, pulling the cold air in and sucking the warm air outside. This will also cause draughts to circulate through the house, which can seem even colder than outside temperatures.

In addition, while you may want to make the most of the short amount of sunlight on offer each day, keeping your curtains and blinds cold can help to keep the warmth in, which will save you money on your energy bills. Double and triple glazing can also help to reduce condensation and damp forming, by keeping the glass warmer and preventing water molecules from clumping together and forming visible drops.

Doors

Doors can also help with heating costs as they can be insulated to help reduce heat loss and stop cold air from coming in. Most exterior doors nowadays have integrated insulation installed as standard to help you keep the bills down and stay warm this winter.

Keep your house warming by shutting as many interior doors as possible. This will circulate the heat around enclosed spaces better, instead of filling spaces that you don’t necessarily need to heat such as corridors.
